I love looking at childrens bedroom designs. When designing a room for kids, fun and full of imagination are parts of the requirements. But from practical standpoint, and my view as a mom, I care more about their safety and how easy it is to declutter/clean the room.

Here are the list of things of what I think is important in the kids bedroom design.

Variety of Labeled Storage

If you are a mom or live with kids,  you know and understand how fast they mess up a room. Labeled storage will definitely help with easy sorting. It can be just labeled differently, or you can use different color for different category. It serves as storage but also bring color to the room decor. For smaller bedroom, think about double duty furniture, like storage ottoman or bed with drawers.

Do not install anything heavy on the wall, especially around the bed area.

If you would like to have any wall decor, try wall decal or just variety of paint colors. Framed pictures or artwork should be hung on the opposite wall of the bed and make sure it is not too heavy. I personally prefer canvas kind or artwork or picture than glass framed kind. The reason is to avoid any freak accident in the event of earthquake or just simply a loose screw.

Trundle bed is preferred than bunk bed

In case of fire, smoke will rise up, this is not safe for kids who sleep on the top part of the bunk bed. Well, it depends on how big the room is and how high the ceiling is. But bed with trundle is a much safer choice than a bunk bed.

Classic and high quality furniture

Depending on your budget and your willingness to change your room decor, you can pick any furniture/heavy items for the kids room. Boat or car shape looks fun but kids are growing so fast. If you plan to decor your kids room with certain theme, use something that easily replaced like wall decal, room rug, fun pillows or bedsheets. It is easily replaced and also budget friendly.

Do not overdecorate

Less is more especially for kids with allergies. Decoration items tend to collect dust. The lesser it is, the easier it is to clean the room.
